The secret ingredient is always time.
Nobody likes to be rushed. When I slowed down I realised that my creative output improved. I found that the best quality of work happened when I wasn’t working at all. Walking the dog quickly became the most creative part of the day or getting lost in thought in the shower achieves more than hours in front of a screen.
There is no world where spending more time on something doesn’t make for a better result. Using trends as a crutch for short term gain might be appealing now but will age quickly.
There is no substitute for contemplation, that’s why true timeless design doesn’t happen by chance or luck. It’s the result of a considered approach that looks to the past, the present and the future to create something unique that will stand the test of time.
I’ve learned that when I give my work time, it gives something back.
